Qualifications for Primary Voting
Only those registered voters enrolled in a party represented on the primary ballot may vote in that party’s Primary election. Cross-over voting is not permitted. Enrollment must have occurred no later than the last day of local registration the previous year. Newly registered voters should consult with the Board of Elections for enrollment deadlines.
General Elections
General elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November to elect national, state or county officials and/or decide ballot issues. Federal and State elections are held in even-numbered years, County elections in odd-numbered years.
The only local election held at the time of the General election in November is for two Town Justices. Each of the major political parties nominates one candidate. They run unopposed for
this statutory, non-salaried position.
